For great coffee you need to start with exceptional coffee beans. On my own quest for great coffee I have travelled to the highlands of Ethiopia, Honduras and India

I ship my coffee beans to coffee enthusiasts Australia wide. If you are local (Melbourne) you are in luck as you can pick up freshly roasted coffee beans from my shop at 1 Keys Street, Beaumaris.

Here are the beans that I offer:

  • Ethiopia - the original K Bean Coffee Beans - beautifully balanced - medium roast

  • Brazil - a traditional Italian style coffee - dark roast

K Bean Coffee Beans come from the Kaffa region - Western Ethiopia - the birthplace of Coffee Arabica. This region shares many characteristics with the Southern regions, especially Yirgacheffe and Sidamo. Coffees from all 3 regions are known for floral and berry notes with winey-sweet acidity. Coffee from the Kaffa region is known for having a fuller body than the other two regions.

Most farms in the Kaffa region are semi-forest systems, typically under 1 hectare. They are often family lots. Most farmers continue to cultivate coffee using traditional methods. As a result, most coffee is grown without chemical fertilizer or pesticide. Farmers hand pick their coffee cherries then deliver them to local washing stations. Next, cherries are floated to remove defects, then visually inspected. Cherries are then pulped and the beans are then wet fermented. After fermentation, beans are washed in clean water and moved to raised beds to dry. At the beds, workers pick over drying beans to remove any defects, and they often sing along as they do so. Yes, I heard this when I visited. Drying beans are turned regularly to ensure even drying, with beans taking around 10 days to dry. Next step is packing into 60kg hessian sacks. After that it’s time for the little green beans to take a little trip to Australia where they get roasted to perfection.
