About K Bean Coffee Machines
Welcome from me, Paul, home coffee machine enthusiast and owner of K Bean Coffee Machines. I supply premium Italian coffee machines from my small shop located in Beaumaris (Bayside, Melbourne).
My home barista journey started back in 2005. I soon became obsessed. I built a coffee roaster, built my own brewing gear and played with all sorts of coffee toys including presses, pourovers, siphons and cold drippers.
I started dreaming about a coffee business and in 2014 I decided to give it a go. I named my business K Bean. The K comes from an Kaldi. As legend has it, Kaldi, an Ethiopian goat herder, discovered coffee when he observed the spirited behaviour of his bean eating goats.
In the beginning K Bean offered home roasted coffee beans along with manual brewing kits. I visited many homes to show locals how to make great coffee at home. My cool little kids joined in as well for a little fun.
I built a website and shifted my focus to manual espresso machines. I could see that great service would give me an edge over traditional retailers. Whilst I send gear all over Australia, it’s locals that I have the most fun with. It’s always great when someone visits my shop without any experience, and walks away ready to make amazing coffee.
My home barista journey along with many years on coffee forums (3000+ posts) put me in a great position to start a business and to grow it. Energy is the driver of a small business and energy is sky high when your business is also your hobby. And I really have had a lot of fun along the way, including adventures in Ethiopia, Honduras and India
During the first 7 years I operated from my home and from my double garage. In 2021 I opened a bricks-and-mortar shop in Bayside Melbourne at 1 Keys Street, Beaumaris
In 2022 my son, Quinn, joined K Bean Coffee Machines as the very first employee. Quinn learnt to make coffee at 9 years old and he now makes coffee every day. In 2023, 17 year old Liam joined the team. He is nuts about coffee. If you visit on a Saturday you will get to meet him.
